Pastor George A. Swartz, 83, of Richfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 25, at UPMC Osteopathic Hospital, in Harrisburg.
He was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, a son of the late Edward W. and Pauline M. (Cluck) Swartz.
Since 1967, he had served as an interim pastor at area churches as a willing servant of his heavenly Father. He had also driven truck for several firms including Overnite and Triangle Cabinets.
On Nov. 14, 2009, he married the former Louise L. Cook, who survives.
Pastor Swartz enjoyed reading his Bible and doing his radio broadcast and was always excited to spread God’s word. He also found joy in hunting, camping, doing sudoko and loved to golf.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 15 year are two daughters, Wanda Sieber and Robin (Mark) Strawser; one son, Troy (Cindy) Swartz; stepchildren James (Annette) Fertich and Lori (Stephen) Plasic; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; a sister, Mabel Maneval; nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Quinn J. Speece Swartz; a son-in-law, Wayne Sieber, and a brother-in-law, Norman Maneval.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. and again on Monday, March 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with Pastors Roger Womer, Jimmy Neimond and Jim Bob Neimond officiating. Burial will be in the Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery.
