Kay Erb Obituary

Kay Louise Erb, 75, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Holy Spirit Penn State Hospital in Camp Hill surrounded by her family.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1949, at Sunbury Community Hospital, a daughter of the late Donald E. Sr. and Dorothy Krouse Erb.

Kay grew up in Kreamer but her home was really her maternal grandparent’s farm, Amon and Minnie Mangle Krouse, near Kreamer. That farm remains in the family today.

Kay graduated from Middleburg Joint High School in 1967. In that same year, she began employment with the Department of Public Welfare, where she worked for 32 years, retiring in 1999 at the glorious age of 49.

She spent the majority of her years working in the executive offices and later in the main office over the county assistance offices, where she was responsible for all personnel and labor relations actions.

In earlier years, she enjoyed the outdoors, biking, fishing, boating and time at the Shore and gardening at the family farm.

She especially enjoyed her fish pond and all her cats over the years.

She considered herself truly “happily single.”

In earlier years, she was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove and more recently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill.

Surviving is a sister, Mary Lou Auman and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald Jr. and Pam Erb, all of Selinsgrove; two nephews, Charles Johnathon (CJ) Erb, of Oklahoma, and Donnie Erb, of Virginia; an aunt Virginia Krouse, of Selinsgrove; and a very close cousin, Sharon Northridge, of Jonestown, and her eight children and their spouses.

Also surviving are very special friends Gina and Mike Welsh, of Mechanicsburg, who have adopted Kay’s cats, Miss Kitty and Whisper, who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and grandparents, by a brother-in-law Ed Auman, cousins Karen Krouse and Jim Northridge and an uncle John Krouse.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with her cousin, Rev. Jason Northridge officiating.

Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Selinsgrove.

Kay was an organ donor and will help two people be able to see.
