Guy Hackenberg Obituary

Guy J. Hackenberg, 97, formerly of Middleburg, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, Feb. 27, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1927, in Adams Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Homer Hackenberg and Luella (Bowersox) Boop.
On June 18, 1949, he married the former Fae A. Benfer, who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1995. On April 20, 2002, he married the former Edna G. Royer, who survives.
Guy served in the Navy from 1945 to 1947.
Guy’s first employment was at the Mifflinburg Bodyworks, and then Asplundh Tree Service. After which, he established Hackenberg’s Trimming and Spraying, which operated for 70 years and he retired at the age of 90.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Church, formerly St. Peters United Methodist, in Beavertown, and had more recently attended Hummels Church, Middleburg. Guy loved to sing and play the guitar. He enjoyed anything outdoors and hunting, but his greatest love, which he always said he loved very much, was his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Blyth Hackenberg and son and daughter-in-law Lofty and Tina Hackenberg; stepchildren Robert and Shelva Martin Jr., Susan and Steve Walter, Tina and John Miller Jr., Cheryl and A. Joe Kahl, Tammy and John Ulrich, Kelly and Alonzia Richardson, and Melissa Kreamer and Kevin Long; eight grandchildren, Curtis Hackenberg Jr., Benjamin Hackenberg, Wesley Hackenberg, Chad Hackenberg, Mandy Howard, Amber DeLong, Cameron Hackenberg and Shannon Hackenberg; 18 step-grandchildren, and many great and step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild and step-great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Peg) Frecka and Linda Valentine; a brother, Gary Boop.
He was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Hackenberg in 2016; two daughters, Yvonne Hackenberg in 2011 and Vanessa Hackenberg in 2013, and a brother, Harvey Boop.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hummels Church, 427 Sassafras Road, Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with Pastors Steve Smith and Pete Carnahan officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Beavertown, with military honors by the Middlewest Veterans Honor Guard.
