George H. Long, 92, of Middleburg entered into rest on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Hillside Senior Living, Montoursville. He was the husband of Alma A. (Snyder) Moody-Long, who survives. The couple were married in 2007.
George was born on April 22, 1933, in Adams Township, Snyder County, the son of the late John Norman and Sara (Bickhart) Long. He attended Hassinger school until 7th grade when he went to work on the family farm.
Early in his life, George worked for Middleburg Cannery, Philco in Watsontown, and Mifflinburg Silk Mill. At the age of 17, he started working for Asplundh, in 1961 he started Eastern Tree Service, then Long’s Tree Service until 1977, later starting Willow Tree Service and until his death Apache Tree Service.
In addition to his wife Alma, George is survived by sons Ivan Long, and Steven Long; three daughters Cynthia and (John) Bealer, Karen Long, and Lisa Fuhrman; a stepdaughter Lisa Litwin; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two sisters Evelyn Sheesley and Joyce Fisher; and Austin Stroup, who he considered a son.
George was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years Rebekah A. (Try) Long, a son Cecil Long, a daughter-in-law Lorraine Long; a great-grandchild, a stepson John D. Moody, and two sisters Darlene Long and Julia Dunkelberger.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill Street, Middleburg followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ronald “Pete” Carnahan officiating. Burial will be Zion’s Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
