Florence R. Hassinger

Florence “Flo” Ruth (Mitchell) Hassinger, 96, of Oak Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, 15 Ridgecrest Circle, Lewisburg (formerly of New Berlin, Middleburg, Lewistown, Selinsgrove and Mifflinburg), was born April 16, 1929, in Limestone Township, Union County, a daughter of the late Russell David and Grace (Bilger) Mitchell. On April 21, 1991, Flo married Ray W. Hassinger, of Mifflinburg, who passed away June 15, 2016, after 25 years of marriage.
She attended Mifflinburg High School. Flo was employed for 13 years by the former Huntington Throwing Mill in Mifflinburg, and later, at the Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown. She was formerly an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove, where she frequently helped prepare and serve dinners and banquets with the Mixed Adult Sunday school Class, and, since 2012, she was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg.
She is survived by a son, Daniel L. Ernest of Grand Junction, Colo.; son-in-law William Lash, of Shamokin Dam; one granddaughter, Pamela Musser and her husband, Todd, of Selinsgrove; a niece, Carol Wagner, and her husband, Terry, and their daughter, Andrea, of Penns Creek; two great-granddaughters, Trista and Brynn; three step-children, Karl W. Hassinger and his wife, Catherine, of Rush Township, Northumberland County, Janette M. Georgetti of Erie and Susan H. Jows of Mifflinburg; seven step-grandchildren, Tony, Tracy, Alyssa, Nathan, Ben, Becky and Jenny; and eight step-great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, Abby, Maddie, Collin, Aidan, Emily, Reese and Daniel.
Florence was preceded in death by a son, Scott, in 1976; a brother, Delmar, is 1988; a brother, Richard, in 2016, and a daughter, Beverly Lash, in 2019.
At Florence’s request, there will be not viewing. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at the New Berlin Cemetery.
