Elizabeth “Liz” Irene Walter, 85, of Selinsgrove, entered the Gates of Heaven on Sept. 24, 2025, at her home. She was born in Sunbury on June 30, 1940, the daughter of the late Roy and Harriet Eichner Moyer. She was a 1958 graduate of Sunbury High School.
On Oct. 20, 1974, she married Ruddy Walter, who survives. Her death breaks a marital union of almost 51 years.
She was employed at various retail stores in the Sunbury area. She also worked for eight years at Nilus Manufacturing in Kratzerville.
To her immediate family, she was always known as Sis. She was a loving and caring wife. She liked to joke with people of all ages and gave you her opinion but she had a serious side as well. Her favorite pastimes were reading and doing search-a-word. She read her Bible every day and most recently was rereading the Psalms. She also read many other books especially those written by a Christian author.
Liz accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at summer camp in 1950. As a public profession of her faith, she was later baptized at First Baptist Church in Sunbury, where she was a member until 2014. She was currently a member of Amazing Grace Community Church in Northumberland. She served the Lord faithfully at both churches over the years in various ministries including nursery, choir, kitchen and wherever God wanted to use her. Sh looked forward to coming to church whenever doors were open. Since 2015, Liz also served as an auxiliary member of the Snyder County Gideons and came to know many wonderful Christians associated with the Gideon organization.
As you read my obituary, my prayer is that I will see each of you one day in Heaven. In order to get there, the Bible shows us the way in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus paid the price for our sins when He died on the cross. The Bible says His way to the Father is the only way to Heaven. In John 14:6, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Have you called on the Lord to save you from your sins?
In addition to her husband, Liz is survived by two brothers, William (Martha) Moyer of Sunbury and Roy Jr. (Darlene) of Freeburg; one sister, Ruthann (William) Faust of Sunbury and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by as daughter, Amanda Sue, in 1975; a sister, Betty, in 2016 and a brother Richard in 1992.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends and Family will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Amazing Grace Community Church, 138 Need St., Northumberland. The funeral service will follow at 11 with Pastor Darrin Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery in Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Amazing Grace Church, 138 Need St., Northumberland, Pa., 17857 or to Gideons International, PO Box 382, Selinsgrove, Pa., 17870.
