Edward "Rick" Menne Obituary

Edward “Rick” Menne, of Middleburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Born on October 22, 1951, in Bethlehem, PA, Rick was the son of Edward and Arlene Menne.

Rick graduated from Liberty High School in 1969 and attended college at Drexel University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in social services.  After a brief time working in a juvenile detention center as a social worker, Rick changed career paths to follow his interest in woodworking and construction.

In 1975, along with several friends, Rick purchased a farm in the Middleburg area, eventually moving to the area full-time in pursuit of a quiet lifestyle.  Rick married Beverly in 1983 and welcomed his only child, Sara, soon after.  The family resided in a small cabin while Rick designed and built the family home.

Rick held a variety of jobs over the years: bartender and cook at the Scarlet “D”, various construction jobs, making and installing countertops for Lewisburg Builders, and crafting and selling fine furniture to customers throughout the country. Rick was most proud of his efforts to supply insect boxes to the entomology department at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Ever the perfectionist, Rick was known for his fine quality of work and attention to detail.

Rick loved music and attended many music festivals and events over the years. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties. Guests were lucky if he decided to serve his excellent crab cakes. He was an avid sports fan and was lucky to see the Eagles win two Super Bowls. Rick enjoyed Friday poker games with The Poker Boyz, never winning much money, but always appreciating the comradery. Most importantly, Rick was a steward of his land, spearheading the creation of two pollinator fields to support the bee and butterfly population.

Rick was sometimes a man of few words, but he cared deeply for his wife and daughter. He was a steady, dependable presence and could be counted on for advice and support.  Rick was genuinely interested in his grandchildren’s activities and appreciated hearing their ideas and opinions.  In addition to his immediate family, Rick was close to his sisters, Dianne and Patricia, who affectionally referred to him as “The Golden Boy”. Rick also had many close friends, some relationships lasting over 50 years. Keeping in touch with these lifelong friends was very important to Rick.

In addition to his wife, Beverly, Rick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Erik Bolton of Lewisburg, grandchildren, Emma and Jack Bolton, his sister Dianne and brother-in-law Donald Scheck of Bethlehem, and sister Patricia and brother-in-law Donald Soltysiak of Hellertown. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and close family friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Blake, and brother-in-law, Jamie Blake.
