Deborah Shaffer Obituary

Deborah S. (Sierer) Shaffer passed away January 7, 2026, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where she was a resident since April 10, 2024. Deb was born February 1, 1954, to the late Russel and Iona (Varner) Sierer of Mt. Pleasant Mills. On October 24, 1975, she married Carl Shaffer, who survives. The couple were married for 50 years at the time of her passing. After graduating from Middleburg High School in 1972, Deb worked at Tri-County Bank and Swineford National Bank before opening Pine Acres Greenhouse in 1975 until 2022. Deb also assisted her husband with Shaffer’s Service Station, Pleasant Oil Co., and Church Hill Estates. Deb was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, the American Quilters Society, and Juniata Valley Quilters Guild. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and annual vacations to Ocean City, N.J. In addition to her husband Carl, she is survived by  son Bret and Naomi (Long) Shaffer of Harrisburg, granddaughter Petra and grandson Winston,  daughter Jordan Shaffer and her significant other Neel Belani of Arlington, VA, two brothers Larry and Ann Sierer and Gregory and Traci Sierer of Mt. Pleasant Mills, a brother-in-law Merle Rakerd of Vicksburg, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Rakerd. Deb, Mom, Mimi, will always be on our minds and forever in our hearts. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Nottingham Village and Geisinger Hospice for all their help and support.
