David E. Smith, 75, of rural Middleburg, went to be with his best porch pal, Sonny Hollenbach, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at his home.
He was born March 27, 1950, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Milford and Gladys (Reich) Smith.
On Dec. 1, 1968, he married the former Jean D. Walter, who survives.
David was a member of the Selinsgrove High School Class of 1969. He had been employed as a supervisor at numerous area highway construction companies.
He at tended Hummels Church, Middleburg, and was a member of the Middleburg Masonic Lodge and Harrisburg Consistory.
David enjoyed hunting and was a NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He also enjoyed watching his grandson, Carter, go-kart racing.
His greatest joy was found in his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 57 years, are a son, Michael Smith; a daughter, Tiffany (Gary Jr.) Fry; six grandchildren, Megan Smith and her fiance Damien Hahn, Carter Smith, Taylor, Tanner, Tucker, and Taryn Fry; three sisters, Joyce Bollinger, Judy Hollenbach, Mary (William) Newman; and three brothers, Tom (Linda) Smith, James
(Joan) Smith, and Douglas (Miriam) Smith; a sister-in-law Linda L. Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Walter and John Eichman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Smith; and brothers-in-law and sistersin- law, Arla (Marlyn) Tittle, Alvin (Pauline) Walter, Violet (Russell) Roush, June Eichman, Peggy Walter, John Bollinger and Sonny Hollenbach.
Private graveside services will be conducted at Hummel’s Church Cemetery, with pastor Ronald Stahl officiating.
