Early on the morning of March 4, beloved husband, father, and grandfather David E. Fawver, 82, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, journeyed off to explore the ultimate wilderness of the great beyond after an extended illness.
Dave cherished being in nature. Whether walking or hunting in the woods, canoeing or fishing on the river, or just hanging around the backyard, he was most at peace when he was outdoors. The quiet and the solitude spoke to his soul. He understood it, and it understood him. But even though he reveled in nature, Dave held one thing more valuable: his family. He wore out his body as a truck driver, crisscrossing the country for decades so his family could have a better life. More importantly, he rose above a past filled with abuse to become a loving husband and father.
Dave’s desire to make the lives of those around him better also extended to his community, as he volunteered with the Fremont Fire Department in various roles for many years, with his longest service coming as a fire police officer. Dave was also a lover of art. For much of his life, he enjoyed drawing and painting and even considered attending art school to hone his talents.
Not many people knew about Dave’s more sensitive side, but those who did realized that beneath a prickly veneer lay a man who appreciated the beauty of a majestic landscape or a galloping herd of elk. Dave was a fan of science fiction and action movies, a good piece of fried chicken, and playing old Nintendo Wii games. He was loved for all his hobbies and for who he was, and he will be missed.
Dave is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharen (Hoffman) Fawver, his son Kurt (Erin) Fawver, his grandson Malcolm Fawver, and his sister Virginia (Fawver) Lowe. He is preceded in death by his mother Jessie, father Daniel, brothers Richard and Jim, mother-in-law Alma, brother-in-law Harold, and many, many old trucking buddies.
