Carlos V. Mitchell, 100, of rural Middleburg, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Penns Creek, a son of the late McClain and Ada (Crossgrove) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School and was married to the former Rachel Minium, who preceded him in death in 1978.
Carlos was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy.
He was employed in the construction of farm silos and following his retirement, he had a fruit farm, which he found great pleasure in operating.
Carlos enjoyed hunting and fishing, and watching Shepherd’s Chapel TV show and reading the Daily Item, but only the Local section, and he always loved his cats.
Surviving are two daughters, Faith (Rudy) Weikel, Carla (Kenneth) Hoover; one son, Dane (Kaethe) Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Conor (Sarah) Mitchell, Niki Mitchell (Karl), Dustin (Alisa) Weikel, Linsey (Chris) Trego, Jill (Johnny) Hamilton, Amber Hoover (Matt), Kitawna Hoover (Tony) and Dylan Hoover (Jillian); eight great-grandchildren, Shayla Mummey, Sophia, Olivia, Alex and Amelia Trego, Emmitt and Zoey Hamilton and Lyndon Hoover; his longtime companion, Mary Inch and her sons, Donovan and Dion Inch
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Mitchell.
Services with military honors will be private at a later date at the Penns Creek Union Cemetery with Pastor Arden Steiner officiating.
