Carl H. Haines Sr. went to be his lord and savior on Saturday June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born on December 6, 1932, in West Beaver Township, Snyder County, a son of the late George Paul and Arie Annie Alice (Bickel) Haines.
He attended both McClure and Mifflinburg area schools, but only for a limited time, yet the intelligence, talent, and work ethic that he naturally possessed shined through all aspects of his life.
On June 12, 1953, Carl married Ruth F. Klinger. Together, they had seven children: John, Connie (Jerry), Cindy (Stan), Theresa, Ed (Tina), Rick, Skip (Michelle). He later married Vivian J. Smith Conrad. She had six children.
Carl built a life across the East coast, living in Allen Wood Pa, New York State, and finally settling in Winfield Pa. In NY Carl practiced carpentry and operated a dairy farm. When he returned to PA, he established Carl H. Haines Co., a construction business. One of his greatest professional achievements was helping to build The Plaza House shopping center in Selinsgrove, Pa.
Carl was a lifetime member of the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren (now Buffalo Valley Brethren Fellowship Church) and was a mainstay of the "Golden Oldies" church group, where he fostered many great friendships.
Carl enjoyed playing cards, quoits (and winning), making homemade ice cream, and telling so many memorable jokes. He enjoyed the many opportunities he had to spend time with his sons, who followed in his footsteps on their job sites. Above all, Carl had deep care, love, and admiration for his family, taking great pride in the legacy he was able to create with his many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The time he spent with them were some of the most cherished moments of his long and wonderful life. He never failed to greet every one of them with a hug and a kiss or say goodbye with " I Love You."
Along with his children, Carl is survived by Bucky and Evie Haines, whom he considered to be children of his own, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, countless family members, friends, neighbors, his sister Dot and brother George Haines. All of whom will carry on his wisdom and legacy for years to come.
Carl his preceded in death by Ruth Haines, the loving mother of his children, his wife Vivian Haines, his children John and Teresa Haines, Stan Ettinger (son-in-law), grandchildren Justin Dehart and Nolan Bonaparte, and fourteen siblings.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 10:30 AM – 12:00 noon at Buffalo Valley Brethren Fellowship Church, 46 Brethren Church Road, Mifflinburg, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Eric Reamer officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to BVCOB church, Residential Hospice, or a noble cause of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated hospice workers who aided Carl and recognize the endlessly selfless contribution of his loving daughters, Cindy and Connie, who loved and cared for him until the very end.
Arrangements are by Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill Street, Middleburg.
