Byron E. DeLong

Byron Eugene DeLong, Middleburg, passed away on Sept. 18, 2025. He was born on Sept. 6, 1950, in Lewisburg. He grew up in Mifflinburg. He was the son of Ammon Franklin & Margaret DeLong. His passing ends a marital union of nearly 48 years with his wife, Susan (Ulmer). Together, they were blessed with 3 boys: Dennis DeLong (Allison), Kevin DeLong (Veronica), and Michael DeLong (Tina). He had 3 children from his previous marriage, Becky Swartz (Rodney), Brian DeLong (Heather) and Jake Spotts (Deb). He has multiple grandchildren, including Amanda Smith (John), Stephanie Swartz, Austin Swartz, Cassie Swartz (deceased), Megan DeLong (Sam Strause), Shawn DeLong (Carly), Nolan DeLong, Nora DeLong, Ben DeLong, Ashley DeLong, Kyle DeLong, Owen DeLong and one grandson on the way. He has 4 great-grandchildren, including Scarlett, Carson, Cole, and Haisley. Byron was one of five siblings. He is survived by 2 sisters, Judy Dauberman (Bill) and Joyce Spaid. He was preceded in his passing by his brothers Walter (Velma) and Dave (Deb). He also has many nieces and nephews. He worked much of his life at various jobs in the lumber industry and then at Susquehanna University as a maintenance man in the boiler room. One of his famous sayings was “Bubba Booey.” He was often found wearing jean bib overalls. He enjoyed spending time with his family. In past times, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He found peace in reading his bible from beginning to end. Services will be held at Hummel's Funeral Home on Sept. 25. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. with services immediately afterward. Following a private burial with immediate family, a luncheon will be held at the Middleburg Moose at 4 p.m.
