Betty J. Martin, 74, of Middleburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her residence.
Born on Jan. 5, 1952, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of the late John R. and Helen J. (Try) Smith. On June 27, 1970, she married Harvey L. Martin, who preceded her in death following his passing in 2022.
Betty was a 1970 graduate of Middleburg High School.
She began her working career at Juniata Garment, followed by Middleburg Video and Wood-Mode LLC where she retired.
She was affiliated with Arbogast Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
Betty was an active member of the Middleburg Lodge 1229 Loyal Order Of Moose and its auxiliary.
Betty's greatest joy was her family. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, loved ones, and especially her best friend who was like a sister, Ellen Reich. She enjoyed attending meals at Sun Area Technical School, playing bingo, and meeting with friends and former classmates for lunch. Some of her happiest moments were spent taking her grandkids to flea markets, proudly watching her family participate in sports, and attending the grandkids’ school events.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Patricia Hoover (companion Barry Spade), Jerene Swartz, Bobbi Martin, and Brenda Forshey (Brian); grandchildren Dylan, Tyler, Wesley, Wyatt, Breanna, Josh, Makenna, Brayden, and Makayla; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Linda Herman.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 6-8 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill Street, Middleburg.
