Arden R. Yerger, known to most people simply as Art, passed away on February 6, 2026, at the age of 62, surrounded by love from family and friends.
Born April 4, 1963, Art lived life on his own terms. He was private, strong-willed, and famously stubborn—and if you knew him, you know that wasn’t a flaw; it was just Art. He didn’t need the spotlight or try to impress anyone, but those closest to him knew his dry sense of humor and appreciated the quiet way he showed up.
Art spent most of his working life with the Carpenters Union. He took pride in hard work and built some of his closest friendships there—people who knew they could count on him, even if he didn’t say much about it.
He leaves behind his mother, Shirley Witmer; his siblings, Lynne Kratzer, Ken Yerger (Dee), and Larry Witmer Jr. (Patty); his children, Adrian Yerger (Courtney), Adam Reisig, Ryan Zechman, and Tabatha Spriggle (TJ); and what he would probably say was his real legacy—his grandchildren: Mattie, Austin, Chloey, Marlo, Hayden, Matthew, Peyton, Layla, Riley, Stevie, and Quinn. He also had a special place in his heart for his favorite nieces, Brandy Greif and Tiffany Kratzer.
And by his side, he leaves behind his beloved dog, Dolly Parton Yerger—a.k.a. Piggie—his constant companion and best friend, who went just about everywhere with him.
Art was preceded in death by his father, Roy Yerger Jr.; his stepfather, Larry Witmer Sr.; his brother, Tim Yerger; and his brother-in-law, Randy Kratzer.
The family is grateful to the medical and palliative care teams at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital for their care and compassion during Art’s final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time for those who knew Art best. No fuss—just people, stories, and remembering him the way he would have wanted.
Art will be remembered for loving his family, standing his ground, working hard, and being unapologetically himself, and never going anywhere without Dolly.
